Overview
Anxiety and OCD can feel overwhelming, intrusive, and exhausting. At Josh Curie & Associates Therapy, we provide evidence-based treatment to help children (6+), adolescents, and adults reduce symptoms, regain control, and build confidence in managing distress.
You don’t have to keep living in constant worry, fear, or mental loops. Effective treatment is available.
Understanding Anxiety
Anxiety disorders may include:
- Generalized anxiety (constant worry or “what if” thinking)
- Social anxiety
- Panic attacks
- Phobias
- Health anxiety
- Separation anxiety (in children and teens)
Anxiety often shows up as racing thoughts, muscle tension, irritability, sleep disruption, avoidance, or difficulty concentrating. While anxiety is a normal human emotion, it becomes problematic when it interferes with daily life, relationships, or work/school performance.
Understanding OCD
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) involves:
- Obsessions – intrusive, unwanted thoughts, images, or fears
- Compulsions – repetitive behaviors or mental rituals done to reduce anxiety
OCD is not about being “neat” or “organized.” It can involve fears related to contamination, harm, morality, relationships, health, or uncertainty. The cycle of obsession → anxiety → compulsion can feel impossible to break without structured support.
Evidence-Based Treatment Approaches
We use clinically supported methods recommended by organizations such as the Anxiety and Depression Association of America.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns while building healthier responses to anxiety triggers.
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
ERP is considered the gold standard treatment for OCD. It gently and systematically helps clients face feared situations while reducing compulsive behaviors—breaking the anxiety cycle over time.
Skills for Emotional Regulation
Clients learn practical strategies to:
- Tolerate uncertainty
- Reduce avoidance
- Manage panic symptoms
- Improve distress tolerance
- Build resilience
What Treatment Looks Like
Therapy is collaborative and structured. Together we:
- Identify triggers and patterns
- Create gradual exposure plans (when appropriate)
- Develop coping tools that work in real life
- Track measurable progress
- Address underlying stressors or trauma
For children and teens, we also involve parents in supportive and developmentally appropriate ways.
Hope Is Possible
OCD and anxiety are highly treatable conditions. With consistent support and evidence-based care, many clients experience:
- Reduced intrusive thoughts
- Decreased compulsions
- Improved sleep
- Increased confidence
- Greater freedom in daily life
If anxiety or OCD is interfering with your life—or your child’s life—Josh Curie & Associates Therapy is here to help.
