Experience and Education:

Christopher Merchant, MSW, earned his Master of Social Work from Oakland University and has built his career in Community Mental Health, serving children, adolescents, adults, and families. His journey into social work is deeply personal; once a homeless young adult navigating the complexities of his own sexual orientation, Christopher chose to pay it forward by dedicating his life to helping others.

Passionate about supporting individuals from all walks of life, Christopher brings experience working with homeless youth and adults, as well as those struggling with anxiety disorders, panic attacks, trauma, depression, anger, self-esteem, behavioral concerns, and other mental health challenges. His approach to working with LGBTQIA+ individuals is inclusive, affirming, and grounded in empathy.

Christopher has training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), using this foundation to promote self-determination, empowerment, problem-solving, and positive affirmation in the healing process. He believes in meeting people where they are offering compassion, honesty, and strength-based support through goal setting, self-love, and healing practices.

Outside of his clinical work, Christopher enjoys spending quality time with his partner and close friends or diving into a good book at a local coffee shop. An avid reader, his collection ranges from anything from Twilight, The Notebook to The Trial of Socrates, with a special love for comic books; especially anything featuring Rogue from X-Men, his favorite Marvel character. With a deep-rooted passion for mental health, Christopher is committed to growing into a well-rounded, impactful clinical social worker.
